Recovery Housing

Recovery is an on-going process. Because we know that no two people are alike in their needs and goals, treatment is customized to each person's individual situation

The journey of healing continues long after completing an initial treatment experience. It is crucial that this healing be supported and nurtured so the person may continue to thrive and grow as they take each new step toward recovery. Nurture and support are not always easy to find. The disease of addiction takes many things from those touched by it and this sometimes means feeling like you're starting over. CFR offers several different styles of recovery housing.

Adult Recovery Housing

CFR's Recovery Housing options for adult men and women offer support to those who find themselves in need of longer term care. Clients who show dedication to the goal of long term recovery are considered for this opportunity. Specialty housing options are available in Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and Webster City. The Recovery House is not just transitional housing but an extension of the therapeutic community. Residents continue to experience individualized treatment planning as well as group and individual sessions with clinical staff they have come to know and trust.

Individuals may apply to live in one of CFR's Recovery Houses by completing this application and returning it to a CFR office, via fax at 515-955-7628, or via email at information@cfrhelps.org

Family Recovery Housing

CFR has a longstanding commitment to the families of those in recovery. Combining substance use treatment and housing for families with children means a chance for a family to live in safe, affordable, drug-free housing with ready access to ongoing treatment and support; to stabilize employment and become self-sufficient; and to break the cycle of substance use in the family and embark on a new life.

CFR has twelve Family Recovery Housing apartments located in Iowa City: ten with two bedrooms and two with three bedrooms. The purpose of the program is to support parents in recovery in making a successful transition from primary treatment to self-sufficient, independent, and responsible living as family members and members of the community.

While in Family Recovery Housing, residents are connected with resources in the community. The program includes counseling and case management services to address issues such as prenatal and family health care, mental health concerns, parenting, childcare, transportation, job seeking/retention, budgeting, and financial management.

Residents of the Family Recovery Housing program are required to:
  • Be an Iowa resident
  • Participate in treatment services as recommended by CFR staff
  • Remain drug- and alcohol-free
  • Pay rent or a portion of rent as determined by Section 8 rental assistance
  • Agree to all program requirements

Transitional Housing

CFR's transitional living houses provide an extended opportunity for safe, recovery-oriented living environments. Located in Fort Dodge, two houses are designated for women and one is for men. Residents of the homes pay rent, continue to engage in outpatient treatment services, and are a part of a recovery community for added support and accountabilty.
